Alleyway Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lb ground beef
3/4 C fine bread crumbs
1/2 C grated parmesan cheese
1 egg
1/4 C chopped fresh basil
2 cloves minced garlic
1/4 C finely minced red onion
1/4 tsp salt and pepper

2 14 oz cans diced tomatoes in juice
1 small onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp minced fresh basil
1 Tbsp minced fresh oregano
1/2 C red wine
salt and pepper to taste
grated parmesan to top

  1. Mix all meatball ingredients together in a bowl with your hands. Form into small balls. Bake at 375ยบ for 30 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Set aside.
  2. In saucepan combine all of sauce ingredients except parmesan. Simmer over low heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. During the last 15 minutes add the meatballs to the sauce to heat.
  3. Cook pasta of your choice according to package instructions. Drain. Top with sauce, meatballs and grated cheese.
